چکیده

The involvement of lymph nodes in leprosy is said to have been recorded by Gadesden in the 15th century (8) , and has been included as a feature in all modern textbooks dealing with leprosy. Klingmtiller (14), Basombrio (2), Schujman and Vaccaro (24) and Furniss (1) have described the gross and microscopic appearances of the lymph nodes in leprosy. Leprologists are unanimous that the lymph nodes are invariably involved in lepromatous leprosy, but there is disagreement about the finer histologic details; and there have been differences of findings in tuberculoid leprosy. The present investigation was undertaken to study in detail the structural alterations produced in lymph nodes in lepromatous leprosy, and also to see if the nodes are at all affected in tuberculoid leprosy, and if so to what extent.

Fine needle aspiration of lymph nodes in leprosy. A study of bacteriologic and morphologic indices.

Lymph node aspiration was performed from the inguinal group of lymph nodes in 16 patients having lepromatous or borderline leprosy. In the same group of patients impression smears of excised lymph node and slit smears of the skin were also studied. This study made it obvious that the aspiration biopsy technic gave similar information regarding the Bacteriologic (BI) and Morphologic Indices (MI)...

Type II reaction without erythema nodosum leprosum masquerading as lymphoma.

Lepromatous leprosy is a multisystem disease that can involve many organ systems, with lymph nodes a common extra-cutaneous site to be affected. Rarely, multibacillary leprosy can be confused with other diseases like lymphomas and connective tissue diseases. Herein we report a patient of lepromatous leprosy with Type II lepra reaction involving lymph nodes who presented with generalised lymphad...

Lichen scrofulosorum in a patient with lepromatous leprosy after BCG immunotherapy.

Lichen scrofulosorum is a rare form of tuberculid seen in children and young adults. The cutaneous lesions are typically symptomless papular eruptions, associated with a strong Mantoux reaction, tuberculosis of lymph nodes and/or other organs or rarely following BCG vaccination. We describe an unusual case of occurrence of lichen scrofulosorum following BCG immunotherapy in a patient with lepro...

Lymph node abscess and cardiac involvement in a patient with nodular lepromatous leprosy (LL) with erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL): a rare occurrence.

With the world's focus on reducing the leprosy patient load to the extent of elimination, finding and reporting the rarer presentations of leprosy becomes important for prompt treatment. Also, these untreated patients may serve as a potential source of infection in community. We report a 35-year old man diagnosed to have lepromatous leprosy and erythema nodosum leprosum with inguinal lymph node...

A comparative evaluation of bacteriologic and morphologic indices of Mycobacterium leprae in skin, lymph node, bone marrow, nerve and muscle.

This study elicits the comparative evaluation of the Bacteriologic Index (BI) and Morphologic Index (MI) of the skin, lymph node, bone marrow, nerve and muscle tissues of 15 untreated leprosy patients. The findings of comparable or even higher BI's and MI's in lymph nodes than skin are of considerable interest, especially the presence of a significant percentage of viable bacilli during reactio...
